Mad Rivals

I just played my second “Songs About Stories” show for the Melbourne Library Holiday Program. Both shows went well, they’re lovely spaces and Michelle, the children’s librarian at City, was a huge help.

But on my way home I passed by 211 Flinders St, the “shop” of the City Hatter’s (est. 1910)!

And, sure, they were very helpful (informing me that while they don’t usually stock Dark Green Bowlers that they could have one made for as little as $320 – although I didn’t ask them how much damage being hit in the head by a bat shaped boomerang would do to the felt) and have quite a large range of quality hats…

…but they’re just not mad enough; being entirely too sensible and consistent in their shop layout, prices, policies and designs. I might have to have them thrown out of the union (if we hatters were organized enough to have one).
